Sunrise Eagles PTA Volunteer Sign-Up Form
2010-2011
Sunrise Elementary Needs You!
Sunrise Eagles PTA is dedicated to supporting the faculty, staff, parents and especially the students of Sunrise Elementary. This is accomplished in many ways – through classroom volunteers, fundraising and sponsorship of activities. With the recent budget cuts, the school needs your help now more than ever. All of the programs PTA sponsors directly benefit our children, and would not be possible without YOUR support! You are invited to participate in any way that you can; Sunrise has volunteer opportunities for everyone!
PTA is more than popcorn and wrapping paper. We do so much more and need help to get it all done! Please look over the list of volunteer opportunities. There are descriptions and time commitments included. The kids and school would greatly benefit if everyone signed up for at least one position. Not all positions are PTA activities, but all are important and support our school.
If you are unable to volunteer your time, please support the children of Sunrise Elementary by joining the PTA and purchasing items from the Fall Fundraiser.

Art Docent – Mr. Beals has asked the PTA to help bring more art to the Sunrise students. This program is like a traveling art class. PTA provides the posters, prints and lessons. Volunteers are needed to cover the lesson and take the students through a project that reflects what they learned about the artist or his work. Volunteers can choose how involved the project is, how often they want to visit the classrooms, and how many classrooms they would like to handle. The time commitment depends on you and what can coordinate with the teachers.
Audit Committee – Volunteers are needed to review the PTA financial books twice a year, in January and June and report the findings to the PTA board. Each audit takes less than three hours and checklist forms are provided. Audit must be done by members only as a group of three or more
.
Book Fair – Assist the Librarian with the Book Fair and help students shop for books in three hour shifts. Help is also needed with set up and tear down of the fair.
Box Tops/Soup Labels – Volunteers collect labels that have been turned in at school. Peel, trim, bundle and mail to appropriate sponsors. Time commitment estimate is 2 hours a month.
Bulletin Board – Decorate the PTA Bulletin Board with PTA news, events, promoting school spirit, etc. Boards change monthly. Volunteers can do one bulletin board or many and may take a couple of hours to complete.
Coffee for the teachers - PTA arranges for Mocha Motion to make drinks for all teachers after winter break. Assistance is needed for two hours to deliver the drinks to the well deserving teachers.
Curriculum Night – Help plan and organize children’s activity for Curriculum Night, September 30th.
Dinner for teachers working late for Fall Conferences - Make a crock-pot meal or dessert for the teachers who will be working late conducting teacher/parent conferences in the fall.
Fall Fundraiser ($Count) – Volunteers will collect and tally orders on the final fundraiser day. Only paid PTA members can collect orders and money. We will be counting money all day long! If you can even help for an hour or two, it will really help!
Fall Fundraiser Distribution – Volunteers will help organize the boxed orders and then help distribute in November. Organizing will be from 1:00 – 3:30. Distribution will be 3:30 – 6:00.
Family BBQ – Help plan, organize and execute the spring family BBQ and raffle which will be in May. Coordinate the activities, raffle, food ordering, etc. Help is needed with set up and clean up too.
Field Day - Help run games and supervise the kids on this fun day outside at year end!
Fifth Grade Promotion Celebration – Help plan, organize and execute gifts and refreshments for the 5th grade celebration in June.
Friday Morning Munchies - Sell pepperoni and licorice to the kids on Friday mornings before school.
Time Commitment Estimate: 30 minutes per week/3 weeks per month. (Not on Free Pop-Corn Fridays.)
Holiday Storytelling Family Night – Help plan and organize a holiday event. Traditionally this event incorporates the high school drama club and is set up and decorated by the teachers. Parents clean it up in addition to wrapping a book for every child, ordering snacks, etc.
Hearing/Vision Screening - Assist the school nurse with simple eye and hearing exams on all kids. 4 hour shifts one day in November.
Nominating Committee - Recruit board members for following year (2011-12). Minimal time commitment. Task will begin with general membership vote in September and must be completed by February.
Picture Day - Assist photographers on picture day with organizing order forms and kids! Two or four hour shifts one day in October.
Popcorn - PTA gives out free popcorn to all students on the first Friday of every month. Volunteers are needed to pop the popcorn (2-3 hours) and to hand it out during the lunch hour (1 hour) monthly.
Recess Games - Help Ms. Amberg teach the kids recess games one day in the fall. Full or half day shifts. Ms. Amberg plans the activities and you just follow along. It’s a lot of fun!
Staff Appreciation – Bring in treats to thank the staff for a job well done during Staff Appreciation Week! This is usually in early May.
Testing Survival Kits - Purchase and pack paper sack gift bags for all kids taking the MSP test in May.
It talks less than two hours for two people to pack the sacks.
Website Coordinator Design, create and update new PTA website! Time Commitment Estimate depends on your skill! Once the website is built, minimal updating will be needed.
Winter Family Fun Bunco Night – Help plan, organize and execute a family fun BUNCO night. We will need a set up crew, clean up crew and a few people to help with snacks.
Year Book – Help the yearbook committee plan & arrange the yearbook using special software. Take pictures at special events throughout the year. Collect pre-sale orders and help distribute books to the classrooms. At least one computer savvy volunteer is needed to work with the yearbook vendor directly. Software and support are provided.
General Volunteering – Be on-call for any assistance that might be needed.
Please note that any volunteer work at the school on a regular basis must be cleared through the district. This includes volunteering in your child’s classroom. Many items on this list are considered one-time events and do not apply. If you would like to work in your child’s classroom or computer lab, but have not yet been cleared, please contact the school office for a Volunteer Application.
